This is the history of Holy Redeemer Church. I only have this bit from an old parish directory. I didn't add any just from my mind because I wasn't sure of the correct dates. If you have any information I can add here please email me.

  • 1879
    First recorded date of a Catholic priest in Clarksville, June 16, 1879
  • 1890
    First church built with the help of Father Mathew Saettela, O.S.B. (Home Parish - Altus, Arkansas).
    Church was located on the east side of Bluff Street (now known as North Rogers).
  • 1900
    Church was moved to present site when ½ an acre of land on the east side was traded for 1 acre on the west side of then Bluff Street.
  • 1901
    Parish cemetery established.
  • 1902

    First Parochial School was built.
    First nuns arrived and took charge of school. They also supervised renovation of an old building for use as an orphanage. The orphanage remained open until 1921 when it was absorbed by St. Joseph's orphanage at Little Rock.

  • 194x
    New church building fund established.
  • 1957
    Construction on new church and school started.
  • 1958
    New Holy Redeemer Church and school facilities were completed.
    First Mass was celebrated in the new church November 23, 1958.
